5 Ways To Get Over Your Webkinz Addiction
Are you a Webkinz addict? Is your obssession over Webkinz worrying you? If your answers to the above questions are ‘yes’ then this is the most important thing you’ll ever read. Here’s another question. Can you go a day without logging in the Webkinz World and spending hours there?
Webkinz can be addictive and Webkinz addiction is very serious when all you do is nothing but get online and play with it. It can be worrying and I know that some kids just don’t do nothing else but play with their Webkinz online every single day. Hey, I don’t blame them, Webkinz World is such a wonderful and fun place to be in. And because of this it’s difficult to stop playing when you’re having so much fun.
A friend of mine whose daughter has about 33 Webkinz (maybe more now) altogether expressed her concern over this when her daughter wouldn’t want to go anywhere but stayed online during her summer holiday. The only time she wanted to go out was to buy a new Webkinz. Her daughter wouldn’t eat when my friend asked her to stop playing. She got to the point of disconnecting the computer so that her daughter wouldn’t have access to it.
How can you stop this Webkinz obsession once and for all? There’s a list that you can find on Webkinz’s website here. But I’ll summarize some and add some of mine below:
1. Allow your children to play with Webkinz only after they finish their chores or homework or whatever you want them to do. Use Webkinz as a reward.
2. If you are a parent, set a time limit and tell your children to obey it. Buy a timer and set it to one hour or two hours, depending on how long you think is suitable for them. I think one hour should be enough for them to spend in the Webkinz World. If they want to stay online for another hour, refer to number one again. But then again, there’s always tomorrow.
3. Play with your Webkinz plush toys with your friends and get creative. Make them a house to live in. Encourage them to draw pictures of their dream rooms for their pets, draw their Webkinz pets or take photos of their pets and make a scrapbook. Make a movie starring your Webkinz pets and publish them on Youtube and tell me about it and I’ll post it here on this blog for others to see.
4. Get involved more in outdoor activites. Go out on a picnic. Yes, you can bring your Webkinz pets along with you. Take your Webkinz toys out for a walk in the park. Who knows, you might find some other, do I dare say Webkinz addicts out there?
5. Again, if you are a parent, change the password every single day or every single session. Write it down on a piece of paper or a small book so that you won’t forget it. The only way your child can get to the Webkinz World is by asking you for the password. That way, you can control the frequency of their visits to the Webkinz World. When they’re done for the day, change the password again, so that the old password can’t be used the next time your child tries to log in again.
That’s all. All you have to do is discipline yourself and implement the 5 ways so that you could get over your Webkinz obsession that I’ve described above and you should be fine. It may not happen overnight, but you’ll get over your Webkinz addiction slowly over time. Only then you will realise that, your life doesn’t revolve around Webkinz but it’s the other way round. Being in the Webkinz World isn’t the only fun thing to do. There are other fun things out there. All you have to do is find them.
Remember that it’s an addiction only when you make it an addiction.
I want to know your thoughts on this. Please leave your comments below or better yet, if you have other ways that are not described above, please share it below to help others get over their Webkinz addiction.

What an interesting article. I knew that I should be doing something to stop my son’s addiction to Webkinz but I just don’t have the heart to do it to him. But after reading your article, I think that it’s high time that I implement your advice. Thanks for sharing. I’ll be recommending your site to my friends too.

My son wouldn’t move from the screen. I had to bribe him to get him to sleep. But as long as he’s playing with the Quizzes as well, I’m not that worried as he’s also learning stuff. See, you don’t get nothing out of Webkinz. - Tim
